The updated BMW iX now gets more power, more range and sharper styling

The BMW iX EV has now been updated by BMW for 2025, and the updates include sharper styling, increased range and more power. The iX is available in three variants and each of these variants get all-wheel-drive, courtesy of an electric motor sitting on each axle. Read on to know more about the updated BMW iX.

2025 BMW iX design

While the exterior of the 2025 iX may look largely similar to its predecessor, the overall design has now been updated to look sharper and more aggressive. The radiator grille gets a redesign and you now get the illuminated BMW double kidney grille with contour lighting as an option (standard on the new M70 xDrive variant). The headlights have also been designed with vertical elements for the DRLs and turn indicators. The iX also gets adaptive LED headlights with cornering light function as standard equipment. You also get the M Sport and M Sport Package Pro available as an option with sportier design elements. The top of the line iX M70 xDrive variant comes with the features of the M Sport packs as standard, and these include a model-specific BMW double kidney grille with the M logo, black ORVM caps and 22-inch M light alloy wheels.

The interiors of the BMW iX get a refresh too

The standard equipment of the new BMW iX includes an alarm system, the welcome and goodbye animation, adaptive LED headlights, heated seats for driver and front passenger, heated steering wheel, Driving Assistant Plus as well as the BMW Live Cockpit Professional and the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System. The BMW iX M70 xDrive also comes with Integral Active Steering, adaptive two-axle ride level control, BMW Iconic Glow radiator grille, M Sport package Pro and solar control glazing as standard. 2025 BMW iX chassis and suspension

The iX gets a new chassis and suspension setup, based on the increased performance and the changed weight balance. You get a double-wishbone front axle along with a five-link rear axle and electric steering with a Servotronic function and variable ratio. The M70 xDrive features adaptive two-axle ride level control with electronically controlled shock absorbers, M-specific tuning and M-specific anti-roll bars, active steering and a sports brake system.

2025 BMW iX powertrain and performance

The BMW iX gets three variants – the xDrive 45, the xDrive60 and the M70, and each of these variants get electric all-wheel-drive, thanks to an electric motor on both the front and rear axle. The xDrive45 is the base variant and it gets 402bhp of power, with a 0 to 100kmph time of 5.1 seconds. The xDrive60 variant on the other hand produces 536bhp of power and accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in 4.6 seconds. Both these models have an electronically limited speed of 200kmph. The M70 xDrive on the other hand is the performance-oriented one, and it packs in 650bhp of power, with a maximum torque of 1100Nm when launch control is activated. This allows the M70 xDrive to accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 250kmph.

When it comes to the battery packs, the iXdrive45 is powered by a 94.8kWh battery, while the xDrive60 and the M70 xDrive get a 109.1kWh and a 108.9kWh battery pack respectively. The WLTP range of the xDrive45 variant is 490 to 602km, while the xDrive60 variant gets a claimed range of 563 to 701km. The M70 xDrive gets a claimed range of 521 to 600km. The xDrive45 variant is capable of being charged by a DC charger with an output of up to 175kW, while the xDrive60 and the M70 xDrive support a maximum charging power of up to 195kW. The charging socket outlet of the new BMW iX now has a release button. Meanwhile, the electric car can also be charged with an AC charger with a maximum power of 22kW.

The iX gets three variants, each of them with all-wheel-drive

These updates to the BMW iX promise to make a better-rounded package, and it is likely that the updated model will be coming to India later this year. In terms of pricing, the earlier iX went up against rivals like the Audi Q8 e-tron, and only a comparison test will help us find out which of these electric SUVs is the better buy.
