Maruti Suzuki S-Cross

A photographer’s car has to have a couple of key things. One, a tailgate that swings up, so I can take tracking shots from the boot and two, a boot floor with a reasonably high lip so I won’t slide out if someone like Dipayan drives like he usually does when I’m in the boot taking tracking shots. The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross’s boot has a flat floor which means it’s easy to load luggage in to it but is also potentially lethal for me.

That aside, I’ve taken quite a liking to it. I entered Genny, my Boxer, in the Kolhapur Dog Show and the S-Cross’s spacious rear seat proved to be quite useful on the trip from Pune. She’s never been on a long road trip and I was worried about how she would handle the distance – a sick dog  is not a fun Genny loved the trip even though she experienced a few g-forces through Khambatki ghat, some wind in the face on NH4’s faster sections and she sat tight even over the bad sections of road near Kolhapur. Dogs (and people) get sick when a car wallows about and I think it’s the S-Cross’s tight body control that kept us all well and fresh for the competition. Genny won her first ring and got her first challenge certificate by the way and I’m super happy about it.

I’ve discovered that the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is quite a lot of bang for buck too. On the drive to Kolhapur, it returned a steady average of 18.5kmpl and that’s impressive considering this car moves so well.
