2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt breaks cover

Ford has taken the wraps off the new Mustang Bullitt at the North American International Auto Show. The 2019 Mustang Bullitt takes inspiration from the 1968 Bullitt in every aspect. The car showcased at the auto show was painted in a dark green shade similar to that in the movie; it wore no stripes, spoilers or badges. Other reminiscing elements from the 1968 car include a white cue ball shift knob for the gear shifter and a sports exhaust system that has been tuned to give the car its signature exhaust note. Another signature attribute of the car is, the welcome screen turns up in green with an image of the car rather than a pony.

The new Mustang Bullitt is propelled by the same 5-litre naturally aspirated V8 motor that does its duty on the regular Mustang, though it has been pumped up to produce maximum power of 474bhp (23bhp more than the regular model) and a peak torque of 569Nm mated with a 6-speed manual transmission. The Bullitt can go up to 262kmph before losing its breathe. The car is offered with two colour options – shadow black and classic dark highland green.

The legendary actor and racer – Steve McQueen, drove the 1968 Ford Mustang Bullitt in the classic movie named after the car itself. The movie had a car chase scene featuring the Bullitt, which is still considered to be one of the most epic car chase scenes in the history.

Speaking at the car unveil, Darrell Behmer, Mustang’s chief designer said, “This new Bullitt is, as Steve McQueen was, effortlessly cool. As a designer, it’s my favourite Mustang – devoid of stripes, spoilers and badges. It doesn’t need to scream about anything – it’s just cool.”
