Geneva Motor Show 2018: Land Rover announce Range Rover SV Coupe

Land Rover has come up with a limited edition Coupe variant of the Range Rover SUV. And guess what? It has got just three doors. External dimensions are same as the five-door car though. Under the hood of this mammoth is a 5-litre, supercharged V8 petrol engine that churns out 557bhp and 700Nm of torque mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It can sprint from 0-60kmph in 5 seconds with a claimed top speed of 266kmph, which makes it the fastest full-size Range Rover ever. The SV Coupe gets a permanent four-wheel drive system with a two-speed transfer box and an active locking rear differential that is assisted by terrain response. It features dynamic, eco, comfort, grass, gravel, snow, mud and ruts, sand and rock crawl drive modes.

The SV Coupe will be hand assembled at the SVO technical centre in Warwickshire and is limited to a total of 999 units for the entire globe. The car gets new exterior panels along with new front and rear bumpers over its five-door counterpart.  It features a two-part grille with Brunel Metallic rear mesh overlaid with bright chrome front mesh and a Satin Indus Silver metal surround while the letters at the tailgate are crafted in the Birmingham jewellery quarter. Land Rover has equipped the Coupe with 144 Pixel-laser LED headlights and four laser diodes which is claimed to provide luminance five times the standard LEDs on laser supplementary high beam.

Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer, Land Rover, said: “The Range Rover SV Coupé is a celebration of the Range Rover bloodline. With a dramatic two-door silhouette, this breath-taking four seat coupé alludes to its unique heritage while being thoroughly modern and contemporary. Beautifully realised and superbly engineered, the Range Rover SV Coupé delivers the most distinguished, luxurious and exclusive Range Rover ever built.”

The Range Rover SV Coupe is offered with a total of eight body colours out of which four are new ones. Constellation, Parallax, Liquesence and Obsidian are now added in the list of already available Ethereal, Flux, Valloire and Desire. The car is offered with four dual-tone colours for the interiors – Orchid/Eclipse, Orchid/Vintage Tan, Brogue/Ebony and Cirrus/Lunar along with four single-tone colours which include – Ebony, Lunar, Eclipse and Vintage Tan.

The car is loaded to gills, it is offered with a 10-inch display, 10-inch control panel and 12-inch interactive driver display, while the 10-inch colour heads-up display shows turn information like street names, cruise control, RPM and gear information, slope and wheel information. Acoustics are dealed with 1700w, 23-speaker, Meridian 3D Signature Sound System with dual-channel subwoofer which is provided with Trifield 3D technology to enhance the sound quality.

John Edwards, Land Rover Special Operations Managing Director, said: “The introduction of the new SV Coupé brings a new level of individual expression to the Range Rover portfolio and builds on the success of Special Vehicle Operations’ existing bespoke Range Rover programme. Feedback from SV clients who have already seen the vehicle in confidential commissioning sessions has been overwhelmingly positive.”

The SV Coupe sits 8mm lower than the standard Range Rover. The ride height is further lowered automatically as the car starts cruising over 105kmph. The air suspensions are offered with five settings – access height (-50mm max below normal ride height), off-road 1 Ride Height (+40mm max above normal ride height, up to 80kph), off-road 2 ride height (+75mm max above normal ride height, up to 50kph) – additional 30-40mm automatic increase if any obstacle is detected and a manually selectable 30-40mm raise over that.

The Coupe is priced at $295,000, which, when converted sums up to Rs 1.92 crore (excluding customs and duties). It can be assumed that on-road price in the country will easily get doubled after addition of all the taxes.
