The Phantom moniker has been in existence since 1925 and Rolls-Royce has gone ahead and launched the eighth iteration of the Rolls Royce Phantom. While the seventh generation of the Phantom was launched in 2004, the new Phantom was in development for the past six years, and the result is a remarkable machine.
The new Phantom follows the same profile as the seventh generation model but with slimmer proportions and eminent flow in the design. The front fascia of the car takes inspiration from the 103EX concept. The prominent grille at the front is slightly bigger in size than the previous model. The new headlamps although follow the same rectangular shape but now feature LED DRLs and projectors.
The interiors of the new Phantom express sheer opulence in every corner, the dashboard, the steering wheel, the seats, and the roof, everything is made from bespoke materials. There is a variety of choices for wood and leather for the interiors. A new 12.3 inch touchscreen is placed at the centre of the dashboard to serve entertainment and navigation purposes.
The Phantom is powered by a new 6.75litre twin-turbo V12 petrol engine mated to an 8-speed ZF gearbox, producing 563bhp of max power and 900Nm of max torque. And the top speed of the new Phantom is electronically limited to 250kmph.
Under the skin, the new Phantom is based on a new aluminium-matrix architecture borrowed from the new BMW 7-series. The new chassis is lighter as well as stiffer, therefore, the performance, handling, and fuel efficiency is expected to be improved.
Suspension duties are carried out by air suspension and dampers with a double-wishbone setup at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear. The new Phantom rolls on new 22 inch alloys with new ultra-silent tyres, developed specifically for the luxury limousine.
The Phantom has always been a benchmark for ultra-luxury saloons, and the new Phantom also follows the footprints of the previous generations.
