Volvo S90 scores 5-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests

Euro NCAP tested the Ford Mustang as well as Volvo’s duo of S90 and the V90 Estate recently, and as expected the Volvos have fared well, having received 5-star rating during the crash tests.

During the frontal offset crash tests, (40 per cent offset frontal collision at 60kmph) the cabin remained extremely stable providing good protection to knees and femurs of the passengers. During the full-width barrier test too, the driver was protected well with no major damage incurred inside the cabin. Safety assistance systems worked well during urban tests where the S90 managed to stop in a short distance, avoiding collision at all speeds.

The S90 has an active bonnet feature, where the sensors detect the collision when a pedestrian is hit and protects important bits, such as the engine and the radiator from damage by raising the bonnet. Pedestrian protection is optimal as no head injuries and leg injuries were sustained during the crash tests, although the pelvis was damaged. Volvo has autonomous emergency braking system, which works at all speeds, so the car scored maximum points here as well.

We had driven the S90 a few months back and came out impressed with its imposing looks and a well-balanced ride and handling quality setup. The Euro NCAP rating adds to the positives of the Swedish sedan and makes an even stronger case for the S90.
