Auto Expo 2016: Yamaha MT-09 launched at Rs. 10.20 lakh

Yamaha made its big bike foray into the Indian markets with the R1 and the MT-01X way back in 2008. These were the first CBU models to be sold in India by the Japanese manufacturer. The MT-01 was a big brute of a machine powered by a 1670 V-Twin cylinder. The bike was discontinued in 2010.

After 6 years we finally have a new MT to fill in the void left behind. The Yamaha MT-09 has finally made it to India after 3 years of its global launch. The eccentric design was first showcased in 2013 and now in its latest avatar will be Yamaha’s challenger to the Kawasaki Z800 and the Triumph Street Triple.

The 847cc liquid-cooled inline three cylinder motor is encased in an aluminium die-cast diamond-type frame. The motor produces 113.4bhp with 87.5Nm of torque, coupled to a six-speed transmission and as it is relatively light the bike will be quick and nimble for corner carving. The wide single piece handlebar and the slightly rear-set foot pegs have been designed to give an upright riding posture to the vehicle.

The vehicle will be brought to India as a CBU and hence will cost Rs. 10.20 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. We hope the bike paves the way for the future MT models in India, especially the MT-03 and the MT-10.
