12 things you should know about the all new Honda Amaze

The 2018 Honda Amaze was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 and it is a welcome change from its predecessor in terms of the overall design. The design of front grille and headlamps resemble its siblings, City and Jazz. It will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Tigor and Ford Aspire when launched. Here are a few things that you should know about the car:

  1. The new Honda Amaze is built on an all-new platform. As a result it is longer, wider and squatter. Strategic use of high tensile steel also means that it’s lighter than before, more rigid and offers better crash protection
  2. The wheelbase, at 2470mm, is 65mm more than in the previous car. This makes the Amaze’s wheelbase the second longest after the Ford Figo Aspire’s 2491mm. This not only allows Honda to create a more spacious cabin but also adds to the vehicle’s stability
  3. Honda’s ‘Solid Wing Face’ design makes appearance in the Amaze, which aligns the Amaze’s new identity with Honda’s global portfolio.
  4. The boot capacity is up by 20 litres and is now at 420 litres.
  5. Both petrol and diesel engines remain the same, but Honda has improved the diesel with redesigned pistons, block, oil pump and chain system to improve fuel efficiency.
  6. Honda will offer an automatic CVT option for both the petrol as well as the diesel car, making the Amaze the first ever Honda car where a diesel engine has been mated with a CVT.
  7. Honda claims the fuel efficiency of the new Amaze is 19.5kmpl (5-speed MT) and 19 kmpl (CVT) for the petrol. Claimed fuel efficiency for the diesel variant is 27.4 (5-speed MT) and 23.8 (CVT).
  8. Kerb weight of the Honda Amaze ranges from 924kg for the base petrol manual to 1039kg for the top-of-the-line CVT diesel.
  9. The push button start/stop in the new Amaze is the same one used in the MY2016 Civic sold globally.
  10. It comes with a list of features that include touch screen infotainment system with split screen navigation, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, paddle shifters for CVT in petrol variants and all new twin pod instrument cluster.
  11. Safety features include ABS with EBD, airbags, ISOFIX child seat fitting system and impact mitigating headrests on the front seats to prevent neck injury in case of a low severity collision.
  12. The Honda Amaze now gets 15 inch alloys compared to its predecessor’s 14 inchers.
