Geneva Motor Show Special: TAMO unveils their first car – the Racemo

“If you get India right, then you can get the world,” said Tata Motors CEO Guenter Butschek at the Tata Motors pavilion at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show. And with that he took the wraps off the first car to be produced under the TAMO sub-brand which is christened Racemo.

RaceMo, as we had predicted earlier, will be a two-seater sportscar which is based on their new MOFlex Multi-Material Sandwich (MMS) structural modular platform. What more is that you get butterfly-doors, LED headlamps, bucket seats and tons of composite materials. At the heart of the Racemo will be a 1.2-litre three cylinder Revotron turbocharged petrol engine, mated to a 6-speed AMT transmission with paddle shift. The performance figures are staggering as the car is touted to have 187 horses under its hood with peak torque rated at 210Nm, helping the car go from nought to a hundred in under six seconds.

Befitting the look, Racemo comes with low profile tyres with 17-inch alloys upfront and 18-inch alloys at the back with double wishbone independent suspensions for each wheel. Given the performance that it boasts, it requires equal help in retardation which it does with disc brakes at both ends bolstered by ABS with EBD.

TAMO had announced that it would be India’s first connected car as with their alliance with Microsoft would help Racemo remain hooked up to the internet. Another perk of tying up with Microsoft is that the Racemo will be the first Indian car to be part of the massively popular racing game Forza Horizon 3, as you could get your hands on the car before the car hits the roads.

Tata have announced that there will be a race version of the Racemo called the Racemo +, which was also unveiled. While details of the racing activities are yet to be divulged, a probability of a one-make series could be possible in the upcoming future from TAMO.

The production of the Racemo is limited to 1000 numbers and will hit the Indian market by Christmas this year. Hope you find one in your stockings this year!

Tata also showcased two upcoming models at Geneva. Firstly, the sub 4-metre sedan based on the Tiago – the Tigor and their new powerful SUV Nexon. The company confirms that the Tigor will be launched on March 29 with bookings to start soon.
