Stunning Aston Martin DB11 unveiled at Geneva

There’s a fresh Aston and the good news is that it doesn’t look like the old ones. What’s better is that it’s stunning, aggressive and also the most powerful DB model ever. The DB11 gets a new 5.2-litre biturbo V12 under its hood. This newly developed engine helps the sportscar to 100kmph from standstill in just 3.9 seconds. It can do 322kmph if you get a long enough straight!

The DB11 is longer and wider than its predecessor, weighs 1771kg and has its weight distributed 51 per cent to the front and 49 per cent to the rear. Power is sent to the massive 20 inch rear wheels through ZF’s 8-speed auto box that works with a mechanical limited-slip differential. And there’s plenty of it. The show car starts off with 600bhp at 6500rpm and thanks to two turbochargers, a heady 700Nm of torque from 1500rpm. All the power and torque is harnessed through three selectable driving modes – GT, sport and sport plus, altering the engine, gearbox, steering and adaptive damper response.

Aston Martin has nailed it on the styling front.  The traditional Aston Martin grille gets a modern take with the DB11, sharper, and leading into the headlamps. Just because four vents on the bonnet aren’t enough for the sexy Brit, there are Vulcan derived gills on the sides, and this on the first DB11! The hotter versions are yet to come. In profile, the roof clearly separates itself from the beltline, used as an aerodynamic element at the C-pillar and indicating the form that the convertible will take.

This is the first of a range of new-age Aston Martins, which means it has to be as cutting edge on the inside as it is on the exteriors of the car. Hence Aston Martin has partnered with Daimler for all the interior technology, like the 12 inch digital instrument cluster and the 8 inch centrally mounted screen for infotainment. An optional 1000 watt Bang and Olufsen speaker system makes it to the features list, as does a lot of leather, wood and carbon fibre detailing. Stock interior includes leather trim on the dashboard and door panels, also the seats and the steering and the roof is lined with Alcantara.

Deliveries begin in the last quarter of this year so expect it in India only in 2017. Prices start from Rs 1.45 crore in the United Kingdom which points at a figure north of Rs 3 crore when it makes it to our shores. It’s quite the hottie but that price tag makes the new R8 feel like a bargain.
