At the 2017 Shanghai Motor Show Skoda showcased its electric-study concept vehicle the Vision E, giving an insight into the company’s future electric strategy. Skoda also announced to launch five electric vehicles in various segments by 2025, of which the first will be the Skoda Superb plug-in hybrid which will be launched in 2019.

According to the company, the Vision E concept is 4,645 mm long, 1,917 mm wide and 1,550 mm tall. As seen in the picture, the Vision E looks more like a coupe with the sloping roofline and the short front and rear overhangs.

The concept car is powered by two electric engines with a combined output of 225kW. The power is sent to all four wheels. Skoda claim the Vision E has a range of 500km (pure electric power) on a full charge and can reach a top speed of 180kmph.

With the Vision E concept Skoda has also forayed into the world of autonomous cars. According to the company, the Vision E has achieved the prerequisites for level 3 autonomous driving which means it can operate independently in traffic jams, shift into autopilot mode on highways, carry out overtaking manoeuvres, independently search for free parking spaces and park. To enable this, various sensors with different ranges and numerous cameras constantly monitor the traffic situation.

With the Vision E concept, it will be interesting to see what Skoda has in store for the future.
