Rolls-Royce Dawn launched at Rs 6.25 crore

British luxury car maker Rolls-Royce has launched a convertible version of its luxury coupe Wraith, naming it Dawn. It is the second convertible to be sold in India from the company’s stable after the Phantom, at a price tag of Rs 6.25 crore.

It was in 1952 when Rolls-Royce first rolled out a factory-built Silver Dawn drophead, and after 64 long years, it became the muse for the designers of the new Dawn.

The Dawn is sure based on the Wraith’s platform but according to the company, approximately 80 per cent of the bodywork on the convertible is new, including the tyres. The two door, four-seater drophead is powered by a 6.6-litre, V12 engine which makes 563bhp and 780Nm of torque, mated to an 8 speed automatic gearbox. The Dawn claims to clock the 0-100kmph sprint in less than 5 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.

At the event, Paul Harris, Asia Pacific Regional Director said, “Dawn is the pinnacle luxury good for India – rare, bespoke and hand-crafted to the usual Rolls-Royce hallmark standards, this will be a car for only a select few. In many markets we have seen interest from a broad segment of customers who are new to the brand as well as more established customers.”

Styling wise, the Dawn does get the iconic Rolls-Royce treatment, but what is strikingly different is the retractable roof, which can open/close in 20 seconds on-the-go, at speeds up to 50kmph. Once shut, the Dawn is as silent as its coupe sibling and Rolls-Royce claims the Dawn to be the world’s most silent convertible. The manufacturer calls this mechanism as ‘Silent Ballet’. Other highlights include the satellite aided transmission system which anticipates the road condition ahead with the help of GPS and according to the driving style, selects the appropriate gear for a better driving experience.  The iDrive system, the automatic four-zone climate control and various other bells, whistles and customisation options are on offer, just like every other Rolls-Royce.

Starting with Mumbai, the super luxury drophead will be presented in New Delhi and Chennai soon. The ultra exclusive Rolls-Royce is now available at a showroom near you for Rs 6.25 crore.
