Renault India registers 160 per cent growth

Renault India ended the year on a high note registering triple digit growth figures in December. The company sold a total of 10,292 units in the domestic market in December 2015 as against 3,956 units in December last year, a growth of 160 per cent. This steep growth in sales could be attributed to a number of reasons including a wider sales and service network than before, though the primary reason seems to be the launch of the new Kwid hatchback.
In the month of October itself, the Kwid sold close to 5,200 units and by the end of November, Renault India had received over 70,000 bookings for the hatchback. The Kwid is obviously being lapped up by Indian consumers who find the combination of good styling, a decent feature list, fuel efficiency and aggressive pricing to hard to resist. The Kwid had a tough task at hand — competing with some of the best selling cars in the country. It goes head to head with the Maruti Suzuki Alto and the Hyundai Eon, and within months of its launch have boosted Renault’s sales significantly and claimed a 10 per cent market share.
In the calendar year 2015, Renault India sold 53,847 units compared to 44,849 units in the preceding year, registering a cumulative growth of 20.1 per cent. The Kwid has only been on sale since October. It will interesting to see how far Renault India can ride on the back of the Kwid. To add to its arsenal, Renault India will most likely showcase a Kwid with a 1.0-litre engine and even an AMT gearbox at the Auto Expo in February.
