VW Vento recalled for inconsistent CO emissions

Volkswagen has found itself in anther spot of trouble. After the global emission scandal, Volkswagen India has announced a recall of the Vento 1.5-litre diesel for inconsistent carbon monoxide emissions. Volkswagen India maintains that this has nothing to do with the global NOx issue and is a localised one.

Interestingly, not all VW’s 1.5-litre diesel engine equipped cars are a part of the recall. The 1.5-litre diesel Vento with the DSG ‘box and all the diesel Polos conform to Indian emission norms. It is just the manual variant of the diesel Vento that showed inconsistent carbon monoxide emissions that sometimes exceeded the Conformity Of Production (COP) tests conducted by the ARAI.

Volkswagen India will recall 3877 units of the affected car and are holding back sales of the manual Vento till the issue is sorted out. VW is currently analysing the issue and will propose changes to the ARAI. Once approved, VW will implement the changes in the vehicles and resume production of the car.
