Skoda launches the Kodiaq in India

Words by Afzal Rawuther

Skoda has launched the much awaited Kodiaq in India. The Skoda Kodiaq will be positioned above the Superb in Skoda’s India lineup. The Kodiaq also happens to be the only Skoda SUV sold in India now. The SUV comes equipped with a 2.0 TDI engine producing 150PS and is mated to a 7-speed DSG. Skoda, for now has launched the Kodiaq in only one variant, albeit a highly specced one. Bookings for the Kodiaq have begun and will be offered at the ex-showroom price of Rs. 34.49 lakh (ex-showroom) across India. Deliveries are slated to begin on November 1st.

The design is unmistakably Skoda, with the Skoda double slated butterfly grille and the honeycomb air intake characterising the face of the Skoda. The LED adaptive headlights and LED taillights help add definition to what is a classic German muscular design. The bodywork has sharp, straight lines right all the way from the boot to the tailgate.

With a wheelbase of 2791mm and a length of 4697mm, the Kodiaq is long but its length is well proportioned. The 18inch alloy wheels help fill out the rectangular wheel arches and impart a muscular go-anywhere look to the SUV.

The Kodiaq has several nifty features like storage spaces everywhere in the cabin, illuminated foot wells, ambient lightning with 10 colours to choose from, an 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Canton sound system, an electric tailgate like the one on the Superb and 3 zone climate control. The doors have edge protectors that pop out once you open them and there is a removable torch and two umbrellas.

It has loads of boot space, with 270 litres of space available with all the three rows of seats up.

Safety is held in high regard with 9 airbags and ESC with multi-collision breaking. The car comes with an all wheel drive system that can send upto 85percent of the power to any one wheel.

Also, if you feel too lazy about parking, the car will park itself.

Skoda is offering the Kodiaq in four colours: lava blue, quartz grey, magic black and moon white.

To lure in buyers, Skoda is offering a four year complete maintenance package for the Kodiaq priced at Rs. 59,999.

We got our hands on the Kodiaq a few days back and you can read the full report and first drive review here.
