India made Jeep Compass gets 5 stars in ANCAP rating

Jeep launched the Compass in India five months ago. The car is made in India and then supplied to international markets like Australia, New Zealand and Japan. The Australian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP) recently tested the India made Compass and the car came out with flying colours. It received full 5-star rating in the safety tests. The test model was launched in Australia and New Zealand in September 2017.

The car offers dual front, side chest and side head positioned airbags as standard. Out of 16 points, the Compass scored 14.93 points in frontal offset test and full 16 points in the side impact test while scoring full 2 out of 2 and 3 out of 3 points in the pole test and seat belt reminder test respectively. The overall score put up by the car out of 37 is 35.93 points which helped it secure full 5-star rating in the Australian safety test. It also fared well in pedestrian safety and whiplash protection.

The Jeep Compass tested was the Longitude 2WD petrol variant. Compass is offered in two engine variants in India, the 2.0 litre diesel that produces 170bhp and 350Nm maximum twist and 1.4 litre petrol that produces 160bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. The Compass is priced at Rs 19.67 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi for the top-of-the-line 7-speed automatic turbo petrol and Rs 21.37 lakh for the top-end all-wheel drive 2-litre diesel model.
