Datsun redi-GO sketches revealed

Datsun’s third product for India, the redi-GO will be revealed on April 14, but until then, here are some rather stylish sketches of the hatchback. The redi-GO shares its underpinnings with the hugely successful Kwid so this could be the revival for the new Datsun brand that its parent company Nissan is hoping for.

One thing clear from the design is the bold styling. It’s got more of a tallboy Japanese hatchback stance with swept back headlamps and a strong belt line. The wheels seem sporty but expect them to be toned down on the road car. The rear gets high set tail lamps and a swooping rear bumper. It’s more of unibody design to the Kwid’s two box shape to clearly differentiate between the two.

The redi-GO is built on the CMF-A platform and is most likely to employ the same 800cc engine and 5-speed manual gearbox from the Kwid. It will also get the 1.0-litre engine and AMT gearbox but that could come later after it is introduced in the Kwid. So expect the Datsun to be nippy and efficient around town.

Since it has a Datsun badge on its bonnet, the redi-GO will have to be more affordable than its Renault cousin. That is going to be a challenge as the Kwid is priced very aggressively. Datsun could give a few features a miss to achieve this, chief of which should be the touchscreen infotainment system.

We will be at the global unveiling of the redi-GO so stay tuned to @evoindia for updates
