Datsun redi-GO compact hatchback revealed

Datsun has taken the wraps off the redi-GO, it’s entry level compact hatchback based on the Renault Kwid’s underpinnings. While it is going to be the company’s most affordable car, it looks quite premium for its segment.

Datsun has had a lackluster re-launch of the brand with its budget offerings so with the redi-GO, the company has attempted a bold new design. The redi-GO gets a lot of cuts and creases all round, LED DRLs, a high set stance with 185mm of ground clearance and a spacious cabin. There’s a music system on the inside, front power windows and a nice beige coloured interior. The redi-GO also comes with driver airbag, something that wasn’t offered with the Go when launched.

The redi-GO is built on the CMF-A platform and will be powered by the same 0.8-litre 3-cylinder engine mated to the 5-speed gearbox that comes in the Kwid. We don’t know about the power and torque figures yet, which will be revealed closer to its launch, but in the Kwid, this engine makes 53.3bhp of power and 72Nm of torque. In comparision to the Kwid, the redi-Go has a 70 mm shorter wheelbase and 300 mm shorter in length. Not only that the redi-Go is also 25 kg lighter as well.

The redi-GO will be launched in the first week of June and Datsun officials say the pricing will be very aggressive. Bookings will commence on May 1.
