Auto Expo 2016: Hyundai Tucson showcased in India

Hyundai’s attractive SUV showcase at the expo this year is the Tucson. Hyundai will also showcase the HND-14 compact Sub 4-metre SUV later on during the expo but for now, here’s the Tucson.

Recently, Hyundai showcased their latest generation Tucson at Geneva Motor Show and now the SUV is ready to make its come back in India in 2016. The Korean manufacturer first introduced Tucson to Indian market in 2005 but discontinued it soon after due to low demand. Hyundai is targeting the burgeoning SUV segment in the country with the newly launched Creta and Santa Fe, and the Tucson is the only SUV in their portfolio which is not available in the country.

The Tucson fits between Hyundai’s compact SUV, the Creta and full-size SUV, the Santa Fe. It is expected to be priced around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Indian version of Tucson is expected to come with a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing a maximum power of 180bhp and peak torque of 400Nm mated with six-speed manual transmission. The AWD version is also expected to be introduced to the Indian market. Hyundai has plans to start producing the SUV locally in the future, but for now it will only be available as a CKD unit. The only direct competition it really faces is from the Honda CR-V, however it might just eat into the sales of the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Toyota Fortuner as well.

Hyundai hasn’t revealed much about the Tucson yet, but expect updates to trickle in in the coming months.
