All-new Fortuner launching on November 7

Words by Yash Sunil

Toyota India will be launching the all new Fortuner on November 7. One of the most anticipated launches of the year, the SUV is highly awaited. We expect the pricing for the Fortuner to hover between Rs. 28 lakh and Rs. 32 lakh mark. The Japanese carmaker is planning to bring the petrol unit to India, as the uncertainty around diesels still looms around.

Speaking about the design, Toyota has completely changed the design of the Fortuner in comparison to the current model. The new Fortuner has sharp wraparound headlamps with projector lights and LED daytime running lights. The rest of the vehicle has also been redesigned, making it look more like a baby Land Cruiser. The SUV will be provided with two diesel engines and for the first time ever, even a petrol engine will be brought into the Indian market, mostlyt. The diesel engine is a 2.4 litre engine providing 150bhp and 400Nm of torque and a 2.8 litre engine providing 177bhp and 450Nm of torque, and the petrol engine is a 2.7 litre engine providing 164bhp and 245Nm of torque. The option for a 6 speed auto or a 6 speed manual box is most likely to be offered. However, 4×4 will be provided only in the diesel engines. It will be logistically simpler for the Japanese carmaker, as the engines are already doing duty on the new Innova Crysta.

The Fortuner will also receive an extremely luxurious interior, it’s laden with creature comforts such as a touchscreen panel which also doubles as a reverse camera. It will also be provided with leather seats which give the large SUV a very upmarket feel. The interior of the Fortuner is expected to be similar to the Innova, with minor modifications. The top-of-the-line variant will also be provided with a powered tailgate.

When launched, the Fortuner will have the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Hyundai Santa Fe, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Ford Endeavour, and the Honda CRV as competitors. At present, the Toyota is the best seller in this segment, even with the introduction of the new Endeavour and with the all-new car coming up, expect the sales to go upwards from here.
