Maruti Suzuki Dzire now holds 63 per cent market share of entry-level sedan segment

Maruti Suzuki launched the third generation Dzire this year in May and since then it has set the sales chart on fire. The new Dzire sold 1 lakh units within five and half months of its launch –reaching this milestone in record time. It also smashed other records like owning 63 per cent of the market share in the entry-level sedan segment.

Nearly a decade ago, in 2008-09, there were only a handful of sub-four metre sedans and the Dzire held 41 per cent of market share in the segment at that time. Jump to 2016-17 and the number of cars in the segment had shot up to 11 and the Dzire had increased its market share to 50 per cent! Sales are still showing no signs of slowing down and the Dzire now occupies 63 per cent for 2017-18. Maruti Suzuki has nailed it in the design department, as it looks smart and doesn’t look like a boot slapped on to it like the earlier models, which is refreshing. Quality levels are high as well, and the new product has a much more premium look and feel to it compared to its budget intentions of the yore. Notably, Dzire’s nearest rivals, Xcent and Amaze have sold only a fraction of Dzire’s numbers. The new Dzire has seen 22 per cent growth compared to the outgoing model.

Prices for the Maruti Suzuki Dzire start at Rs 5.42 lakh for the petrol car, going all the way up to Rs 8.36 lakh. The Diesel variants have prices starting at Rs 6.43 lakh and they go up all the way to Rs 9.39 lakh.
