Geneva Motor Show Special: Mercedes-Benz goes on a top less spree
Cabriolets were the highlight of the Mercedes-Benz camp at the Geneva Motor Show. Headlined by the E-Class cabriolet, the line-up included the likes of Edition 50 GT C Roadster, E-Class coupe, Maybach G 650 Landaulet and the X-Class concept.
The E-Class coupe gets similar design cues as the S-Class coupe with a massive front overhang and a sloping roofline. The doors are frameless and there is no B-pillar as the windows are streamlined with the roof design. The E-Class Coupe is not expected to make it to India as Mercedes-Benz suggested earlier. At the launch the Coupe will be available with four engine options – one diesel and three petrol. The power output ranges between 181bhp and 328bhp. All-wheel drive will be offered at a later stage and more engines choices are expected to follow. All the engines will be mated to a 9-speed gearbox.
The monstrous Maybach G 650 Landaulet was the showstopper at the stall and is expected to be launched in the European markets soon while the X-Class is expected to be production ready sometime later this year. Also on display was the new AMG GT C Roadster available as an exclusively equipped Edition 50 special model in a limited quantity of 500 cars worldwide. It marks the landmark year for AMG, which was founded in 1967 and celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2017. There was also the Estate variant of the maniacal E63 S with a 604bhp engine which can accelerate to 100kmph in just 3.7 seconds. Finally, the facelifted GLA was showcased as well, which makes its debut in the European markets finally this year and is expected to make it to the Indian shore sometime later this year.
Overall, 34 variants of various cars were showcased by Mercedes-Benz this year at the Geneva Motor Show.
