Ford India has launched the Ford Mustang in India, pricing it at Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The iconic muscle car will be imported as a CBU from the Flat Rock assembly plant in Michigan, USA.
The Mustang has been an important part of pop culture since its launch in 1964. It has always however been manufactured only as a Left Hand Drive car so it couldn’t be sold in markets like India. In its latest avatar, for the first time, Ford is now manufacturing RHD Mustangs.
The GT variant of the Mustang will be the only one coming to India, powered by a 5-litre V8 which is detuned for our conditions and makes 395bhp and 515Nm of torque. Top speed is limited to 250kmph. The engine has been upgraded since the last generation Mustang came out and gets an all new valvetrain along with new cylinder heads. Additionally, a new intake manifold has been incorporated to make it breathe better. Mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission, the Mustang will be equipped with paddle shifters, powering the rear axle. Four driving modes are on offer for the driver – Normal, Sport+, Track and Snow/Wet. The latest generation Mustang also gets an all new independent suspension, thus improving the handling abilities of the sports car to a great extent.
On the features front, the Mustang comes with Ford’s Sync2 Bluetooth system, reverse camera, 8-inch touch screen, keyless entry, push button start and Ford’s MyKey feature which can limit the car’s top speed. The Mustang is safe too as it comes equipped with 8-airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control system and electronic stability control programme. Another cool feature is Line Lock, which locks the front wheels of the rear-wheel drive car, allowing for easy burnouts. The Mustang is a sports coupe but at the same time it is practical for our conditions, as it has a boot capacity of 383 litres and a fuel tank capable of holding 60.9 litres of petrol.
The Mustang is available for purchase in Delhi and Mumbai right now with the choice of 6 colour schemes.
Delhi: Rs 65 lakh
Mumbai: Rs 66.5 lakh
Navi Mumbai: Rs 68.14 lakh
