Maruti S-Cross – evo fleet

A weekend drive to spend some quality time with the S-Cross

Time for some much deserved R&R but with my hectic schedule, Mahabaleshwar seemed a viable alternative. So off we went, family and dog for a weekend of relaxation. The boot of the S-cross is adequate for a couple of overnight bags and Genny (our dog) didn’t complain about space either.

The ride to Mahabaleshwar is a breeze where the S-Cross gets to stretch her legs. This is where the 1.6 -litre motor gets to shine. Overtaking is quite easy and with the turbo coming on song, I could overtake two trucks at a time with ease. The high speed stability is great and with light traffic on early Saturday mornings, we reached Wai in double quick time.

In the ghats, the turbo lag is a bit of a bother as the throttle requires a fair bit of modulation and overtaking manoeuvres need advance planning.

In Mahabaleshwar, I took the S-Cross to all the points of interests and it handled a fair bit of off-roading quite sportingly. Even my baby seemed to have taken a liking to it, sleeping contently throughout most of the journey. No lack of space for my parents and wife either.

Bugbears. The low loading boot lip is good for loading heavy luggage but not for a photographer hanging on for dear life taking tracking shots.
