Audi has finally launched the new Audi A5 in India, along with the A5 Cabriolet and the more powerful S5. The car in question is the second generation model and prices for the new A5 range start at Rs 54.02 lakh (ex-showroom) for the standard A5, while the Cabriolet costs Rs 67.51 and the S5 will set you back Rs 70.6 lakh.
Powering the A5 Sportback and Cabriolet is Volkswagen’s tried and tested 2-litre TDI engine, which is also seen on other members of the Audi family in India. The 2-litre diesel is mated to a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission and produces 187bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. However, while the Cabriolet gets Auto’s Quattro AWD system, the standard A5 does not. Meanwhile, the top of the line S5 Sportback gets a 3-litre V6 turbo-petrol motor that churns out 349bhp and 500Nm of torque, and the engine is coupled to an eight-speed tiptronic torque converter with drive going to all four wheels.
Now coming to performance, the A5 Sportback can hit 100kmph mark in 7.9 seconds while the Cabriolet with the same engine does that in one-tenth of a second less. And with a 0-100kmph time of just 4.7 seconds, the S5 Sportback is the fastest of the lot.
The A5 range gets the latest Audi tech including the new MMI touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Bang and Olufsen speaker system and Audi’s Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster. And the S5 Sportback also features a panoramic sunroof.
“Entering into the new segments and creating new trends is the key differentiation, existing and potential customers are offered the choice of products that are the right fit for them. With the launch of the A5 range, the first in its segment, we are creating demand, which will help us to continue the successful journey in India,” said Rahil Ansari, Head, Audi India.
