Arjun Maini finishes 6th at Zandvoort & 8th at Nurburgring

Arjun Maini (17), displayed great skill and determination to finish 6th at the Zandvoort Masters this past weekend. The Zandvoort Masters at Holland is one of two one-off races contested alongside the European F3 championship. It saw a strong grid of 18 with most of the season regulars in the mix. The Zandvoort Masters is quite a prestigious race and has seen the likes of David Coulthard, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen all taste victory at the historic venue.

Arjun who has so far had a difficult season, showed great pace from the start of the weekend as he managed 7th in the first practice session and quickly followed that up with second, in free practice two with a time of 1 minute 32.547 seconds which was only .043 seconds off championship contender Antonio Giovinazzi of Italy.

However with an 18 car grid and a relatively short track, Arjun was unable to carry his practice pace, into the qualifying session and could only manage 6th after struggling to put together a good run of clear laps.

A difficult qualification race saw Arjun finish in 8th after he dropped positions at the start first to Sam Macleod of Scotland, then the Nabil Jeffri of Malysia and eventually AlessioLorandi his team mate from Italy.

The final race however was a reverse of the qualifier, with Arjun making up two positions to finish 6th. Arjun displayed great race craft making up two positions through the course of the race and enjoyed a great battle with Nabil Jeffri through the race, finishing a mere tenth behind the Malaysian.

The weekend didn’t get off to the best of starts with Arjun finishing in 16th in the first practice session. He quickly recovered to finish 11th in practice two. This form led to a 11th place grid slot, which saw the youngster from Bangalore set a time identical to that of the car in 10th, unfortunately since his time came after his competitor’s Arjun had to start 11th instead of 10th.

Arjun now heads to the Hockeinheim circuit in Germany to contest the final round of the FIA European Formula Three Championship in a fortnight’s time.
