2017 Frankfurt Motor Show: Porsche brings in the 911 GT3 with Touring Package and the new Cayenne models

After angering the fans and enthusiasts greatly with the unavailability of a manual option on the 911 GT3 at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, Porsche have paid heed to ardent 911 lovers and have now provided a six-speed transmission with the Touring Package. While the PDK transmission was beneficial in shaving off crucial seconds in lap times, the purists still felt that the company betrayed them.

With the Touring Package, the 911 GT3 not only does it get the manual gearbox but also a host of visual changes such as coloured wheels, PCCB ceramic brakes, lift system, LED headlights and lastly a variable rear spoiler, much like the one found on the 911 Carrera. Porsche claim that the car will do 0-100kmph in 3.9sec while maxing out at 316kmph. All this comes from a naturally aspirated flat six-cylinder four litre engine.

Porsche have brought in a new generation of the Cayenne with two versions – the standard and the Cayenne S. This is the third generation of the Porsche SUV and is now 65kg lighter than its predecessor, thanks to intelligent lightweight construction. The new design has picked up more 911 cues, the new look making the Cayenne feel sharper and sportier.

Powering the Cayenne are two turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engines. In the Cayenne, the motor produces 340 horses and 450Nm of torque helping it achieve 0-100 kmph time of 6.2 seconds. The sportier S variants has a turbocharged V6 that pumps out a further 100 more horsepower and 550Nm of torque, propelling the behemoth to a hundred in 5.2 seconds. Top speeds of the two variants are 245kmph and 265kmph. Both engines are mated to the same eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox.

Porsche have shied away from revealing the new 911 GT2 RS as it is slated for a global launch at the launch of the latest version of popular Microsoft Xbox racing title – Forza Motorsport – later this month.
