Tata set to launch Hexa, announce prices on January 18

Tata Motors has confirmed that it will be launching the much awaited Hexa on January 18. The Hexa — part MPV, part SUV — is looking to position itself as an alternative to popular people-moving SUVs like the Mahindra XUV500 and the now-rather-expensive Toyota Innova Crysta. Bookings for the car have been on since November but the detailed price list will only be out after the launch.

The Hexa will get Tata’s 2.2-litre litre Varicor engine, and is available in two states of tune — making 320Nm in the lower XE variant and 400Nm in the more expensive XM and XT variants. The XE also gets a 5-speed manual while the XM and XT get the option of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. The XT also gets the option of all-wheel drive, however can be only had with the manual. The Hexa gets four drive modes as well — Auto, Comfort, Dynamic and Rough Road. Fully-loaded, it comes with a number of features as well — Hill hold and hill decent control, ABS and EBD, ESP, six airbags, Harman’s ConnectNext infotainment system paired to a 10 speaker JBL system.

The Hexa comes with the option of being a six- or seven-seater. With Tata offering plenty of combinations on how you want to spec the car, it might just be able to make a mark on the Indian market — something that the Aria never managed.

Stay tuned for our live coverage of the launch on our Twitter feed at 11:00 AM on January 18.
