Two-wheeler manufacturers are getting their arsenal ready to comply with Environment Protection Control Authority’s direction of neither selling nor registering any BS III vehicle from April 1, 2017. Companies are ensuring that all their two-wheelers manufactured meet the stringent BS IV norms to be sold after the aforementioned date.

The Central Pollution Control Board has confirmed earlier that BS III compliant vehicles cannot be sold or registered anywhere in the country from April 1, 2017. While the request to extend this deadline has been made by some automobile companies already, Bajaj Auto is probably the first company to meet the BS IV norms well before the deadline, with their entire line-up of motorcycles being BS IV compliant.

While other companies are working on updates for their motorcycles to meet BS IV norms (that come at a substantial cost), manufacturers and dealers can sell off older BS III bikes at discounted rates if this amnesty is granted.
